Is the Spine Clinic for you?

The SPINE CLINIC brings together a range of spinal health care services to treat effectively various neck and back pain conditions. Together, our health professionals offer a Multidisciplinary Integrated Rehabilitation program for patients suffering from spinal pain.

The Spine Clinic program is based on the most recent scientific evidence related to the rehabilitation of spinal injuries. In addition to reducing pain and disability, its goal is to empower the individual into taking an active role within the rehabilitation process to maximize long recovery and prevent recurrences.

This program is addressed to individuals with chronic pain particularly focussed around the spine. The patients have usually tried different therapeutic approach with variable results and persisting pain and disability. The program offered by the Spine Clinic aims to define with the patient a multidisciplinary integrated care approach likely to provide more lasting pain relief and a return to normal activities of daily living.

A Unique Multidisciplinary Assessment

The first phase of the Spine Clinic program includes an in depth assessment by a multidisciplinary team composed of a medical doctor, a chiropractor and a physiotherapist.

The medical examiner completes a thorough medical history and assessment of the pain condition including a global health review and a rigorous study of potential risk factors for chronic pain.

The chiropractor completes an exhaustive musculoskeletal assessment to better define the diagnosis and potential causes of the pain condition.

The physiotherapist evaluates the physical status and identifies contributing functional limitations.

Together, the three professionals define the most suited individualised rehabilitation care program likely to provide lasting pain relief and a return to normal activities of daily living. The team may however judge necessary to recommend additional investigation and/or refer the patient to other health care providers.

Multidisciplinary Integrated Rehabilitation

The assessment team will define an rehabilitation program that is personalised to the individual according to the findings of the multidisciplinary assessment. It may include participation to educational class on spinal self care and pain management, medical care, chiropractic treatments, physiotherapy, acupuncture, osteopathy, massotherapy, therapeutic touch and relaxation sessions. Treatment number and frequency will vary according to the patient’s condition.

The initial phase of the rehabilitation program aims to reduce the intensity of the pain. Diverse treatment options may be proposed to achieve this goal and will be reviewed with the patient.

The second phase of the rehabilitation program aims to provide the necessary treatment necessary to maximize physical reconditioning and a return to usual activities of daily living. In addition to the care provided onsite at the clinic, patient are expected to actively contribute to the rehabilitation process. Exercises completion will initially be supervised by professionals within the clinic to insure safety and suitability. Gradually, patients will be expected to complete these exercise at home and review the program with the rehabilitation professional when necessary.

Outcome assessment will be completed regularly to insure progress and allow us to modify the rehabilitation program when needed.
